River Hills Golf Club
Tucked away along the “golf corridor” of Highway 17 in the village of Little River, River Hills Golf Club offers one of the most unique and reasonably priced golf experiences on the Grand Strand. This Tom Jackson design is nestled among densely wooded terrain and rolling hills. With four sets of tees, River Hills is a great playing experience for golfers at any level.
Golf Digest nominated River Hills as the “Best New golf course” for 1989, and Golfweek nominated it among the top fifty golf courses in the Southeast.
Often referred to as a “hidden gem” in the Myrtle Beach area, the design of the course makes it a “thinking man’s course” where you have to plan and perhaps hit every club in your bag. The front side meanders through a highland pine forest that is well trapped with fairway and waste bunkers. On the front nine, you have #7 which is a 527-yard par 5 down hill with a double dog leg around large fairway bunkers and over water left and right of the fairway. Then you have to deal with an elevated well trapped sloping green. The back nine has a river running through it so you have to pay attention and manage your game. For example, the 14th par 5 hole is 429 yards with water all the way from tee to green on the left.
